~ Leading from the front, Kunal Chandela’s blazing knock yet again proved the difference as Haridwar Elmas outplayed Dehradun Warriors by 72 runs ~
Dehradun, 28 September 2025: In the fifth match of the Men's Uttarakhand Premier League held on Sunday evening, Haridwar Elmas beat Dehradun Warriors by 72 runs to take the top spot in the points table. Batting first, Haridwar Elmas captain Kunal Chandela continued his stellar form with a magnificent 87 off 52 balls to power his side to a formidable 190/6 in Sunday's double-header held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
After Warriors captain elected to bowl first, the decision initially looked promising when Daksh Awana fell early for 5. However, Chandela and Priyanshu Khanduri rebuilt brilliantly with a crucial 99-run partnership for the second wicket that formed the backbone of Haridwar's innings.
Chandela's knock was a masterclass in controlled aggression, featuring 12 fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 167.31. His innings anchored the middle overs before Mayank Mishra finally dismissed him in the 17th over. Khanduri provided excellent support with 45 off 31 balls, including five fours and a six.
Neeraj Rathour accelerated the scoring in the death overs with a quickfire 32 off 20 balls, before falling to Devendra Bora. Saurav Chauhan remained unbeaten on 11 off just three deliveries, striking a four and six to push the total to 190.
The Warriors bowling attack struggled to contain the Elmas batters, with Devendra Bora leading their effort with 3/32.
Chasing a daunting 191, Dehradun Warriors never gained momentum in their pursuit of the target. Their innings got off to a shaky start as Yuvraj Chaudhary fell for 16 in the fourth over, followed immediately by Sanskar Rawat in the following over.
The middle-order collapse continued with regular dismissals, with the Warriors losing half their side, reeling at 75/5 in the 13th over. Ananjaya Suryawanshi top-scored with 33 off 28 while Sagar Rawat later provided some resistance with a quick knock of 29 from 19. However, by then the required run rate had climbed beyond realistic reach, leaving the Warriors way short of the target at 118/9.
Abhay Chhetri was Haridwar's star bowler with returns of 3/18 while Siddharth Gupta claimed two wickets for just eight runs in his two overs, including the crucial wicket of Rawat in the death overs.
Kunal Chandela was adjudged the Player of the Match for the second time this season.
